Chittagong Hill Tracts Solar Electrification Project
Table of contents
The BPDB is currently implementing a solar energy development program in the Chittagong hills tract area. The system (hybrid) is to run 2.4 KW light load for the electrification of the Bidyut Bhaban area, and is expected to expand by 5.00 kWp solar power in the fiscal year of 2010-2011.
The system is expected to use solar photo-voltaic applications for use in SHS, water pumps, vaccine refrigerators and lighting for the rural folk. The overall funding and supervision will be done by the local government, and a committee will be elected of the local people.
Objectives
The main underlying reason of conducting the project is as follows:
- It is too expensive, difficult and risky to extend the National Grid into the areas
- Transportation of fossil fuels for the localized generators is also very expensive, difficult and risky
- The general load density of the area is low and disperse
Equipment:
- 1000 Solar Home Systems of 120 Wp each
- 30 Sets of Solar PV Street Light Systems
- 3 Sets of Solar PV Submersible Water Pumps of 50,000 liters per day lifting capacity of each pump.
- 9 Sets of Solar PV Vaccine Refrigerators for the Health Care Centres
- 3 Sets of 10 KW Centralized AC Market Electrification Systems for the electrification of more than 200 shops in each market
